UK law
4 questions
Are magic mushroom spores legal to buy in the UK?
In the UK, the spores of Psilocybe cubensis are legal for sale and possession for microscopy and research purposes, as they contain no psilocybin. However, possessing psilocybin mushrooms is illegal.
It's essential to stay informed about the current laws and regulations in this rapidly evolving field.
Are Psilocybe cubensis spore syringes legal in the UK?
Psilocybe cubensis spores are legal in the UK because they lack psilocybin. However, possessing or cultivating materials containing psilocybin, including mature mushrooms, is illegal. The legal status of mushroom spores applies solely to non-cultivation purposes such as research and microscopy.
Are magic mushroom grow kits legal in the UK?
Our mushroom grow kits and grow bags ship as sterile, uncolonised substrate for growing mushroom species that are legal to grow in the UK. No kit or grow bag ever includes spores, mycelium or psilocybin. Growing Psilocybe cubensis from spores is illegal under UK law. Our spore syringes are sold for microscopy and research only.
Do magic mushroom spores contain psilocybin?
No. Spores sometimes sold as "psilocybin spores" are Psilocybe cubensis spores, and they contain no psilocybin or psilocin. That's why they're legal to buy in the UK for microscopy and research.
Spore syringes and microscopy
6 questions
What is a spore syringe?
A spore syringe is a sterile syringe holding mushroom spores suspended in water. It's used to prepare slides for microscopy.
Spores are the tiny reproductive cells a mushroom releases, and you can only see them under a microscope. Our syringes hold Psilocybe cubensis spores and are sold for microscopy and research.
Which magic mushroom spore strains do you stock?
We stock a wide range of Psilocybe cubensis strains for microscopy, including sought-after varieties such as Golden Teacher, B+ and Penis Envy, alongside many others.
We're always expanding the collection, and we check every strain for quality and purity. That way, everyone from curious beginners to seasoned microscopists can find the spores they want to study.
Where do your spores come from?
Our Psilocybe cubensis spores come from respected mycologists in the USA, Austria and Jamaica. That gives us a collection known for both diversity and purity.
We work with leading experts to supply premium spores for microscopy and research.
How should I store a spore syringe?
Keep it in the fridge at 2–8°C, in its original packaging and in the dark. Never freeze it.
It needs refrigerating for storage, but not the minute it arrives. If you won't use it within the first few days, the fridge is the best place for it. Store it somewhere clean: an airtight container or resealable bag keeps out dust and dirt.
Take the syringe out of the fridge 24 hours before use to reach room temperature, then give it a good shake before use.
How long do spore syringes last?
Unopened syringes stored properly in the fridge can last 12 to 18 months. Once a syringe has been opened, it's ideally used within 21 days.
Proper storage means 2–8°C, in the dark and never frozen. Room temperature isn't ideal and can shorten how long a syringe lasts.
What's the difference between a spore syringe and liquid culture?
A spore syringe holds mushroom spores suspended in sterile water. Liquid culture holds live mycelium in a nutrient liquid.
We sell Psilocybe cubensis spore syringes specifically for microscopy and research. Our guide to liquid culture vs spore syringes compares the two in more detail.
Grow bags and kits
6 questions
What is an all-in-one mushroom grow bag?
An all-in-one mushroom grow bag is designed for mushrooms to grow and fruit directly inside the bag after colonisation. Our all-in-one mushroom grow bags ship sterile and uncolonised, ready for you to inoculate with spores or liquid culture of a legal mushroom species.
The range covers brown rice flour (BRF) and manure-based Dung Master bags, and each product page lists its ingredients. Across more than 5,000 grow bags sold, our records show a 96.3% success rate. If a bag fails because of a genuine fault, our Replacement Policy sets out how we replace it.
What do I need to grow mushrooms at home?
You'll need a mushroom grow kit or all-in-one grow bag, spores or liquid culture of a legal mushroom species, and a way to keep the bag at a steady 24–27°C, such as a heat mat.
We sell grow kits and grow bags, as well as heat mats. Our spore syringes are supplied for microscopy only and aren't for growing.
How much spore solution or liquid culture does each grow bag need?
As a guide, inject this much spore solution or liquid culture of a legal mushroom species:
- 1 lb bag: 5–7 ml
- 2 lb bag: 10 ml
- 4 lb bag or 1.5 kg grain bag: 20 ml
Inject through the bag's injection port and follow the instructions supplied with your bag. Each grow bag's product page also shows the amount to use.
Do I need a heat mat for my grow bag?
Yes, if your grow bag's product page recommends one. Our grow bags do best at a steady 24–27°C, and a heat mat or heat box helps hold that temperature. The 2LB BRF grow bag, for example, says a heat mat is needed.
We sell a heat mat and the Magical Grow Buddie heat box. Using a heat mat where one is recommended is also a condition of our contamination replacement.
Can you grow mushrooms all year round?
Yes. Growing mushrooms indoors means you can grow them year-round. With the right humidity, a steady temperature and indirect light, a grow bag or kit can give good results whatever the season.
How can I get a bigger harvest from my grow kit?
Keep humidity, temperature and light under control. For humidity, use the right setup, such as a terrarium or a grow box designed for mushrooms.
Harvest mushrooms just before the veil breaks, and give them good air exchange without over-saturating the substrate. This can also encourage multiple flushes.

How can I tell if my grow bag is contaminated?
Look for unusual colours and smells. Healthy mycelium is typically white and smells earthy. Green, black or orange spots are signs of contamination, and so is a sour or rancid smell.
Remove contaminated material promptly so it doesn't spread to healthy mycelium. If you plan to claim a contamination replacement, take the photos our Replacement Policy asks for first.
Can you help me with my grow bag or kit?
Yes. For help with our grow bags, substrates and equipment, email support@trippingstore.co.uk. Photos or a short video of your setup help us give tailored advice.
Our spore syringes are supplied for microscopy only, and we don't advise on growing psilocybin mushrooms, which is illegal in the UK.

Delivery
2 questions
How long does UK delivery take?
UK orders are dispatched within 1–3 business days of payment being confirmed and usually arrive 1–3 days after dispatch. They go out tracked with DPD or Evri.
Delivery times may vary, especially during peak periods. UK delivery costs £3.99, or it's free on orders of £50 or more.
Is the packaging discreet?
Yes. Every order is sealed in a secure container inside plain, unbranded outer packaging, with no product names or logos. Apart from any customs declaration, nothing on the outside shows what's inside or that it comes from a mycology supplier.
Where a customs declaration is required, we describe the contents accurately, as the law requires.

Returns and replacements
3 questions
Can I cancel my order?
If you're buying as a consumer, you have the right to cancel your order within 14 days without giving any reason. The cancellation period ends 14 days after the day you, or someone you've named to receive the goods (other than the courier), take physical possession of them. If your order arrives in separate deliveries, it's 14 days after the day you receive the last item. You can also cancel at any time before your order is dispatched.
How to cancel, return the goods and get your refund is set out in Your Right to Cancel in our Terms and Conditions. You will have to pay the direct cost of returning the goods.
If something arrives damaged or faulty, see our Replacement Policy; your statutory rights apply, and we'll cover the cost of returning faulty goods.
What if my parcel is damaged, delayed or missing?
What to do depends on the problem:
- Damaged: Contact us with photos of the damage (and of the packaging, if you still have it). If you can't provide a photo or video, tell us and we'll agree another way to check your claim. If you tell us within 30 days of delivery, you can choose a refund or a free replacement; after that, we'll replace the item. Your statutory rights are not affected.
- Delayed: Check your tracking link first. If it looks stuck or is overdue, contact us and we'll follow it up with the courier on your behalf.
- Missing: Check any safe places around your property and ask neighbours in case the courier left it with them. If you still can't find it, contact us and we'll help sort it out.
What if my grow bag arrives damaged or gets contaminated?
If a bag arrives damaged or faulty, you can choose a free replacement or, within 30 days of delivery, a refund. If the replacement isn't right either, we'll keep putting it right until it is, or refund you if you'd prefer.
If a bag becomes contaminated after use, we'll send one free replacement bag (you pay £5.99 delivery, unless the bag itself was faulty), as long as it was bought from Tripping Store, inoculated correctly (using the amount shown on the product page and following the instructions supplied), set up in the right conditions (with a heat mat where one is recommended), and used within 10 to 14 days of receiving it.
To claim this contamination replacement, email support@trippingstore.co.uk with your order number, or use the form on our Replacement Policy page, within 60 days of the date of delivery. You'll need to send clear photos of your setup and of the bag from the front, side and base. This contamination replacement is available once for each bag.
The 60-day limit doesn't apply to a bag that arrived damaged or faulty, or to contamination caused by a fault with the bag (for example, a split seam or seal). If a bag was faulty, your statutory rights apply. See our Replacement Policy for the full conditions.
Psilocybin research
1 question
What is psilocybin being researched for?
Psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, is attracting attention for its potential therapeutic uses. It's at the forefront of mental health research, with studies exploring whether it can help with a wide range of mental health conditions.
